Lymphatic System

MCAT Anatomy > Human Body Systems > Lymphatic System

Background

The lymphatic system carries lymphatic fluid to compromise a large thoracic duct in the chest, which delivers the fluids to the left subclavian vein near the heart. At the capillary level, not all of the fluid is reabsorbed by the interstitial space. Due to the difference in differential pressure in the capillaries the excess fluid is collected by lymphatic vessels and returned to cardiovascular circulation.
